Philanthropy
Brothers of the NC Sigma chapter take pride in many things, one being the opportunity it presents us to give back to the East Carolina and greater Greenville communities. We hold two philanthropy events a year, our annual Battle on the Beach volleyball tournament in the spring, and Bounce-a-thon in the fall, respectively.
Battle on the Beach Volleyball Tournament was started in 2008 to benefit the Jimmy V foundation for cancer research. Located at the Exchange beach volleyball court, it began as an event for the that spring but was so successful, it was decided to continue running the event every year. Open for anyone to play, and awarding a cash prize to the champions, we look forward to finding ways to continue to make the event even greater, and making it a staple of the spring activities in Greenville every year. For more information contact Travis Hixon @ tah0813@ecu.edu or Jamie Tipton @ jkt1117@ecu.edu.
Bounce-a-thon has been a tradition of the NC Sigma chapter for many years now and works to raise money for the Children's Miracle Network located right here in the Pitt County Hospital. This strengthens our community by helping local families in need of assistance make sure the hopes of the future well-being of their children stay a reality. ![]() In addition to these two events our brothers play an integral role in Casey's Race, now an all Greek event. This has become the largest of the events that we started, and has been adopted to be the only all Greek philanthropy event at ECU. Now taking place in the fall, this tournament was began in 2005 by Matthew Robitaille. It is a 5k race that is ran around the campus area of Greenville. Casey's race is held in the memory of Casey Neal Rogers; a brother who will be fondly remembered for his generosity, quick wit, everlasting smile, and charismatic ability to make people laugh. All proceeds are donated to the Children's Miracle Network of Eastern North Carolina. For more information, check out the website at www.caseysrace.com. Sigma Alpha Epsilon also sponsors the Tenth Street section the runs directly in front of the East Carolina campus and holds two street clean-ups per semester. Also, we hold a biannual clothing drive to donate to the Salvation Army here in Greenville.
